Younes, Stevensons and Kearney Hub to Be Honored

The Kearney Area Community Foundation will award the second annual “Celebration of Giving” Philanthropy Awards November 1st. The Community Foundation will be honoring Paul Younes, Dr. B.M. and Beverly Stevenson and the Kearney Hub.

The “Celebration of Giving” Philanthropy Awards will honor individuals and businesses that have encouraged and supported charitable stewardship in the Kearney area. Three awards will be given in the categories of Volunteer, Corporate and Philanthropist.

Volunteer: Given to an individual who has contributed their time and energy to successful fundraising efforts, through exceptional leadership in coordinating and/or motivating other volunteers to raise funds in or around the Kearney area.

Corporate: Given to a business/corporation in or around the Kearney area which has contributed financial support to the advancement of philanthropy, and which has encouraged employees and other businesses to contribute through volunteerism and financial support.

Philanthropist: Given to an individual or family who has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable stewardship in or around the Kearney area, and whose generosity motivates others to contribute their philanthropic support.

Paul Younes will be awarded the Volunteer Award, the Kearney Hub will be awarded the Corporate Award and Dr. B.M. and Beverly Stevenson will be awarded the Philanthropist Award.

Awards will be presented at the Kearney Area Community Foundation Annual Dinner November 1, 2007, at the Holiday Inn. Seating will be limited. Tickets can be purchased for $35.00 by contacting the Kearney Area Community Foundation before October 25th.

Grant Funds Available to Area Organizations

The Kearney Area Community Foundation announced that they will be awarding grants to area organization in July. Applications will be accepted on a bi-annual basis with deadlines of July 1 and January 1. Application forms may be secured online at www.kearneyfoundation.org or by calling (308) 237-3114.

Organizations are encouraged to read the grants guidelines to determine if the organization qualifies for a grant. The second step is to fill out the application, the third step is to make nine copies, and the final step is to mail or deliver the application and copies to Kearney Area Community Foundation, PO Box 607, 1007 2nd Ave, Kearney, NE 68848 by the deadline, January 1 or July 1.

The KACF awards grants in eight fields of interest:

  •  Community/Civic
  •  Human Services
  •  Economic Development
  •  Recreation
  •  Education
  •  Religion (non-denominational)

Central Nebraskans care for Kansans fund total climbs to more than $2000

Kearney, NE – The Kearney Area Community Foundation announced today that $2150 in cash donations have been collected for people affected in South Central Kansas two weeks ago by tornadoes. The fund named “Central Nebraskans Care For Kansans Fund” is depository for donations for the purpose of helping Greensburg, Kansas, rebuild their community. Judi Sickler, Executive Director of KACF said, “Donations have been coming in from McCook to Kenesaw Nebraska. We have donations ranging in size from $20 to $500. We appreciate the generosity of people in Kearney and the surrounding area.”

The Kearney Area Community Foundation will be collecting funds until June 1st before dispersing them to foundations in Kansas helping Greensburg rebuild.

Disaster relief dollars should be sent directly to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and similar programs, Sickler said. The Central Nebraskans Care For Kansans Fund is designed for community rebuilding.

Checks should be made payable to “Kearney Area Community Foundation” with a memo to “Central Nebraskans Care For Kansans Fund.” The mailing address is Kearney Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 607, Kearney, NE 68848. Cash donations are eligible for charitable income tax deductions.

Central Nebraskans care for Kansans fund established

Kearney, NE – The Kearney Area Community Foundation announced today that they have created a fund to collect cash donations for people affected in South Central Kansas last Friday by tornadoes. The fund named “Central Nebraskans Care For Kansans Fund” will be depository for donations for the purpose of helping Greensburg, Kansas, rebuild their community.Judi Sickler, Executive Director of KACF said “We are working closely with the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas in Dodge City and South Central Community Foundation in Pratt to stand by our neighbors in Kansas as they rebuild their towns, their schools, their livelihoods and their way of life.”

In a press release from South Central Community Foundation, Jack Galle, chairman of the SCCF Board of Directors said “We recognize that many organizations are providing disaster relief for Greensburg, however, this fund is different because it is designed to help the community rebuild. This will be a long and painful process.”
