PETER KIEWIT FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE GRANT TO WORLD THEATRE

July 9, 2010
The Kearney Area Community Foundation announced the Peter Kiewit Foundation has awarded $100,000 toward the renovation of the World Theatre in downtown Kearney through the Community Foundation.

In September 2009, the Kearney Area Community Foundation became the fiscal agent of the World Theatre Foundation which allows for private foundations, individuals and businesses to make tax-deductible gifts and grants to the renovation project.

Judi Sickler, Executive Director of Kearney Area Community Foundation said, “We are proud to partner with the Peter Kiewit Foundation and the World Theatre Foundation to continue to improve the quality of life for those living in the Kearney area.”

The Kearney Area Community Foundation was established 15 years ago to help people do good things in our community.  “When the grassroots group led by Jon Bokenkamp approached us 10 months ago to partner with them, we jumped at the chance to help them achieve their philanthropic goals of raising funds to renovate and rejuvenate the World Theatre,” Sickler added.

“Establishing a fund with the Community Foundation, allowed the World Theatre board to immediately start grant writing and fund raising to create and later maintain the momentum these passionate and determined individuals started.  We have been impressed with their marked success and we are proud to be partners with them,” Sickler concluded.

The Kearney Area Community Foundation will continue to work with the World Theatre Foundation as they enter the next phase of their fundraising campaign serving as an “incubator” until the Theatre is established and able to stand on its own.
